Friends and families from all stages and places of Aubrey and Karl’s lives gathered in the town of Duck to celebrate the local couple’s marriage. Guests traveled to the historic downtown from near and far, each individual’s journey representing a part of the couple’s story. Aubrey and Karl were eager to share Duck’s downtown charm and oceanfront views with their guests. “[I knew] I wanted to be married in the sand and my bare feet,” Aubrey, the bride, remembered. Fortunately, the Sanderling Resort offered all of the wedding day amenities on site and featured the perfect sandy, oceanfront location for the bride.

Following the barefoot ceremony, live music carried the party indoors. The Block Party Experience and the One Love Caribbean Steel Drum Band kept guests moving and shaking on the dancefloor, something that was especially important to the bride, who knew live music performances were going to be an essential part of the day. “I don’t think I left the dance floor,” Aubrey laughed.

Photographer Meredith K. Snider worked diligently to capture natural, authentic photos of the couple and their loved ones. “She’s so great,” Aubrey remembers. “Everybody loved her, [she’s] very easy to be around.” Meredith shot candid photography that not only captured the couple’s genuine love for one another, but that also incorporated friends and family members into their memories. Some of the bride’s favorite moments, like sharing a dance floor with family and friends from all phases of life, were caught on Meredith’s lens.

Aubrey gave insightful advice to those planning their Outer Banks wedding from a distance. She emphasizes cushioning the wedding day schedule with extra time. The nature of downtown Duck is one that encourages slowing down and savoring the moment with its narrow, single lane roads. She also recommends renting bicycles or trolleys to get around the typically congested traffic. Maybe most importantly, Aubrey advises other brides to not stress too much about timing. “Everything is going to wait for you.” She remembers parts of the day as a blur, all of the love and celebration and people coming together in one place happening all at once. So slow down, savor, and fall into the nature of the Outer Banks.
