The Outer Banks has been luring people to its shores for centuries, some siren call or sparkling shore always to blame. A destination wedding here is no different, and frequently lovebirds can’t help but invite every last person they know to share in their big day at the beach. But let us not forget the charm of an intimate affair, a soirée so fine that a jazz trio made up of the groom and two colleagues sweetens the air of a concluding reception on a warm night in late June.
This is precisely the type of “Mad Men-esque” wedding Kate and Erik Riggs planned and beautifully executed for themselves and their newly blended family. Classically styled and with a sense of vintage elegance, the newlyweds couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding.
Kate hails from Chicago, Erik from Charleston, West Virginia. They, along with only twenty-five of their closest friends and families, celebrated their union at the Inn at Pamlico Sound, a waterfront boutique hotel on Hatteras Island. The venue took care of all the couple’s needs from catering to the event to the plush accommodation enjoyed by their specially selected guests.
Family, specifically the newly bonded families of Kate and Erik, were at the center of the wedding weekend. Kate’s daughter and Erik’s two sons stood by their parents’ sides at the altar, showing their “incredible maturity and sentimentality” Kate shares, nearly choking up at the memory of it.
